This vibrational link between the sound of the drums and the receiving dancer, resonate on a frequency that I believe help maintain a physical, emotional and spiritual balance in one’s life' - Stephen 'Rubba' Thompson Affectionately known as Rubba, he is an Afrikan/global dance extraordinaire, celebrated performer & teacher. Rubba picked up his nickname as a 16-year-old whilst living on the street of St Paul’s Bristol, where he discovered his innate desire to dance. He instinctively knew that even if he had nothing else going for him, at least he could dance his troubles away. His spiritual approach, fluid technique, supple movements, and graceful style of dancing has endeared him to audiences, fellow dancers & students all over the world. Without doubt he is versatile and one of a select few who can; perform, teach, deliver excellent workshops and implement meaningful projects. He only lives for one thing and that is to continue offering African holistic and traditional forms of expression. • About Us | Back on Track

Discover more about the origins of Back on Track, learn about who we are today, and how our hopes for the future are dependent on fundraising and receiving donations Origins & beyond ABOUT US CHANDOS HOUSE Back on Track, founded by James Dickinson, is the natural reincarnation of Chandos House Treatment Centre, which he previously owned and directed in Bristol. Chandos House, a residential and (w)holistically therapeutic community for men struggling with substance misuse, was forced to close in 2018 due to government funding cuts. This closure created a significant chasm in addiction recovery support, leading to a notable rise in preventable and untimely deaths. Grieving Family Member's Voice I first met James in 2011 when my brother George completed rehab at Chandos House. For the first time in years he was clean, healthy, and hopeful. Chandos wasn’t just a clinic—it was a lifeline. With James’s support, George rebuilt his confidence, gained new skills, and had a real chance at a future. When Chandos closed in 2018 due to lack of funding, lives were lost. Overdoses and suicides rose. My brother was one of them. James never gave up. Now, he’s building a new recovery centre - because Bristol desperately needs it. - George's Sister Determined to address this, James, after a period of personal reflection, established Back on Track in 2023 as a charity to help men overcome addiction and it's incumbent perils. Through reviving their respective recovery(s) and helping them to rebuild themselves, alongside enhancing their relationship with the nature, it enables those we support to work toward leading happier and more fulfilling lives. A HISTORICAL LOOK AT WHY YOUR SUPPORT IS SO INTEGRAL TO OUR FUTURE The Bristol Cable News Article, August 2018 '...With its future under threat, former Chandos House residents told the Cable about how treatment saved their lives, following decades of battling addiction. Two small pieces resembling Banksy’s iconic rat holding up a sign saying ‘help me’ appeared on the building in Redland on Wednesday morning. It is yet to be confirmed if Banksy himself is behind them...' We Can't Do It Alone, We Just Cant! Read Full Article (Opens in new tab) BoT: Aftercare Alternative " In this 2014 interview I spoke on the importance of aftercare and and the positive impact it was having on my recovery. It's been quite a journey, but ten years on and now four years abstinent, I believe a lot of it's content is still applicable. I can clearly see the parallels between the message I was trying to convey about Chandos House, and the FREE support that Back on Track provides to a community of individuals that need it." - Pete S Former Chandos House Resident "The feeling of having shared a common peril is one element in the powerful cement which binds us" Regeneration WHAT WE DO NOW Enriching People & Spaces for Growth Back on Track is not a residential therapy centre, it is a learning environment and sanctuary; dedicated to easing suffering and combating poverty. We create a space for men, predominantly run by men to support each other authentically - free from the pressures of performance, posturing, or seeking validation. This isn’t about excluding women, but about fostering brotherhood, vulnerability, and growth. Many of us lacked strong male role models, leaving us stuck in outdated ideals of masculinity. By leaning on each other, we break free from isolation, becoming stronger, more self-aware, and better equipped to show up for ourselves, each other, and the world. True strength isn’t about bearing everything alone - it’s about brotherhood, healing, and stepping into a balanced, authentic manhood. We focus on individuals struggling with addiction, mental health, homelessness, or deprivation. We offer a safe, communal environment with anti-depressant experiences and life-affirming adventures. Practical offerings include educational courses, fitness classes, artistic pursuits and community experiences. We prioritize personal growth and community well-being, while promoting ecological awareness through rewilding, conservation, and environmental education. Examples of the activities and groups we offer can be found on our carefully crafted timetable. 'In the forest there is no wi-fi, but I promise you'll find a better connection' - Unknown The spaces we use are usually outdoors in nature. However, when the weather dictates otherwise we endeavour to find alternate cover indoors in which to continue providing our support. Our Philosophy Insight into Boiling Wells Ampitheatre Run by St Werburghs City Farm. It is a multi-faceted site where a number of our outdoor activities, shared meals and transormational speaking circles take place BoT Image Gallery Please swipe across using your finger or use the arrows to scroll through. Press play button on videos; either can be enlarged by selecting or clicking on them. Gratitude Corner All locations and spaces are generously provided to us at no cost, the practitioners voluntarily give their time, and all shared meals are alternately supplied by The Scrandit and Beast Butchers . This means that every penny raised goes direct to the sufferers on the street. (Follow Image Gallery instructions for viewing options) “One can never pay in gratitude: one can only pay 'in kind' somewhere else in life” Ann Morrow Linbergh Our Timetable Our Aims & Fundraising With sufficient fundraising we would like to secure permanent premises to call home , so we can guarantee cover when the weather is inclement. We'd also like to bring on salaried staff to supplement our large pool of unpaid volunteers . We'd love the means to provide transportation for those who need it , ensuring there's nothing stopping anyone from making use of our services. Once we can establish a permanent venue we can extend our courses , classes and activities to provide a greater range of improvement, enrichment and environmental development. Your donation truly does matter, and will help improve the lives of those who need it most . "We are focused on finding our way back home through rediscovering connection, purpose and meaning" - Back on Track (W)holistic Philosophy Thanking you in Advance! • Philosophy | Back on Track

7 Life-Altering Challenges of Back on Track's support PHILOSOPHY The reason why we call ourselves the ACE X - Men: We are named after the “ACE” (Adverse Childhood Experiences) framework because we are committed to overcoming the profoundly damaging impact of these seven life-altering challenges: 1. Physical Abuse – Harm or violence against a child. 2. Sexual Abuse – Exploitation or sexual harm. 3. Emotional Abuse – Constant belittling or emotional neglect. 4. Physical Neglect – Lack of basic needs like food or safety. 5. Emotional Neglect – Absence of nurturing or affection. 6. Household Mental Illness – Living with a family member struggling with mental health. 7. Parental Acrimony/Separation/Divorce – The emotional toll of family breakdown. These experiences shape lives, often leading to long-term mental and physical health issues. By understanding and addressing these challenges, we empower individuals to rewrite their stories, becoming stronger just like X-Men. Boundaries, Boundaries, Boundaries Don't Leave Home Without Them An integral part of redressing the balance is (re)setting boundaries, which are essential to maintaining recovery and the way we approach life in general. In unison with nature we create safe spaces for healing and protecting mental well-being. With emphasis placed on defining what is acceptable, this in turn allows the men we support to empower themselves and rebuild focus on their respective revivals. Read More SPEAKING CIRCLES Empowering Transformation The corner stone of our support in regard to overcoming any or all of the seven challenges is to provide a safe environment for talking openly and sharing with each other on a regular basis. Naturally, this is integrated within many other aspects of our courses. However, the men we support benefit greatly from our T ransformational Speaking Circles which are held outdoors where possible - these can have many benefits, including: Empowerment: Transformative circles can help individuals to contribute to a group whereas in other settings they may not. Reflection: With daily and weekly practice they can help individuals to reflect (not dwell) on the past and use those moments to constructively plan making positive changes moving forward. Active listening: Participants can practice active listening skills by focusing on both the words and the tone being used by others. Emotional connection: Participants can build emotional connection among themselves and learn to better process what resonates within. Shared understanding: Participants can cultivate empathy and a shared sense of understanding alongside a sense being a part of. Confidence: Openly speaking can help build confidence. With positive affirmations from peers also helping to build confidence when speaking outside of the transformational speaking circles. Tell YourTruth Poem Grounding in Nature @ St Werburghs City Farm Outdoor Transformational Speaking Circle preparations at Boiling Wells Ampitheatre, St Werburghs City Farm, Bristol Truth Button - Philosophy Try A Simple Truth External solutions are not a fix for internal problems Remember to forgive yourself, we are all works in progress A majority of limitations are those we set upon ourselves Rewilding & Recovery Rewilding offers a unique path towards recovery from addiction. By reconnecting individuals with the natural world, it combats the isolation often associated with addiction and losing direction in recovery. Spending time in nature reduces stress, promotes mindfulness and fosters a sense of purpose and accomplishment. Substance misuse often involves suppressing natural instincts and desires. Embracing "wildness" in a metaphorical sense can involve rediscovering one's passions, expressing emotions authentically, and living a more fulfilling life. Rewilding often involves restoring ecosystems to their natural state, allowing them to thrive without human intervention. Similarly, individuals in recovery can focus on building resilience and self-reliance, learning to cope with challenges and setbacks without resorting to unhealthy coping mechanisms. Furthermore, rewilding provides opportunities for social interaction and building supportive relationships within the BoT community who are focused on nature and recovery in unison. Our passion for rewilding the natural world is utilised by us as a complementary tool within our comprehensive timetable of other (w)holistic activities and support groups. This philosophy better enables us to guide the rewilding process for the men we support more effectively. Rewilding Process
